Abouel Fotouh: Mubarak-era figures using foreign funds to rig election
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 14 - 03 - 2012

Remnants of the Mubarak regime are attempting to influence voters' choices in the forthcoming presidential election, presidential hopeful Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh warned on Tuesday.
Abouel Fotouh called on citizens to go to the polls, saying that remnants of the regime are trying to buy votes aided by funds they get from “the East and the West.”
At a press conference held in Suez, Abouel Fotouh said education and scientific research are priorities in his election platform.
“Every family has the right to appropriate medical treatment provided by a comprehensive health system,” Abouel Fotouh said.
Egyptian activists are organizing a campaign on Facebook under the title “Emsek Feloul," which means "catch remnants of the Mubarak regime,” to raise people's awareness of presidential candidates who were part of Hosni Mubarak's government. The campaign chiefly targets former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq, former Arab League chief Amr Moussa and former head of the military junta's Advisory Council Mansour Hassan.
A number of presidential hopefuls have accused their competitors in the race of receiving funds from abroad.
“More than 90 percent of the candidates receive foreign funds. This is evident, given the size of their campaigns,” Abdullah al-Ashal, a former assistant foreign minister running, said last month.
Moussa, meanwhile, told the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat in January that he has not received any funds from Saudi Arabia for his campaign.
