Egypt's national handball team will fly to Spain on Saturday to start their preparatory camp for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games with the participation of 20 players in the Pharaohs squad. The Pharaohs' Spanish coach Roberto García Parrondo called up 20 players to join his squad during the preparatory camp before announcing the final 15-man squad that will take part in the Tokyo Games. Egypt is scheduled to play two friendlies against Croatia and Spain respectively during their closed camp. Egypt, who reached the Tokyo Olympic Games after claiming the African Championship title, will hold another two preparatory camps in France and Germany before the start of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The 2020 Olympic Games are an international multi-sport event scheduled to take place behind closed doors from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. It was originally due to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, but was postponed in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Egypt's handball team has been drawn in Group B of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, as the Pharaohs will face a tough mission after being drawn alongside the finalists of the 27th Men's Handball World Championship. The 12 participants in the Handball Olympic games have been divided into two groups, as only four teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals, after which knockout games will be played. Egypt, the host of the 27th Men's Handball World Championship, finished seventh after putting on a spirited display, but lost 39:38 to title winners Denmark after a dramatic quarter-final game that needed penalties to be settled.
