Egypt condemns Houthis' drone attack on school in Saudi Arabia
Published in Ahram Online on 14 - 06 - 2021

Egypt expressed on Monday its strong condemnation of a bomb-laden drone attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels that targeted a school in Saudi Arabia's Asir province.
In a statement by the foreign ministry, Egypt reiterated its support of Saudi Arabia and its measures to preserve its security and stability.
The ministry added that Egypt backs the kingdom in its efforts to "face the vicious and cowardly terrorist acts which violate international law and threaten regional peace and security."
On Sunday, Saudi Arabia said a drone launched by Houthi rebels landed in the premises of a school in Asir region, near the kingdom's southern border.
No injuries were reported in the attack that damaged the rooftop of the school, according to photos published by the state-run SPA agency.
Egypt has repeatedly expressed its full support of the Saudi Arabian-led coalition against Houthi rebels in Yemen, saying the Iran-backed movement's practices further inflame the situation in Yemen.
In March, Saudi Arabia launched an initiative meant to hold a ceasefire overseen by the UN across the war-torn country, reopening Sanaa International Airport to a number of direct regional and international destinations, and starting UN-sponsored consultations between Yemeni parties to reach a political solution.
The six-year conflict in Yemen started after the Houthis took over the capital Sanaa in 2014.
A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 to restore the internationally recognised Yemeni government.
The kingdom has since intercepted tens of Houthi drone and missile strikes.
