Egypt's Zamalek lodge complaint against football federation
Published in Ahram Online on 03 - 05 - 2021

Zamalek's management announced early on Monday that it is lodging a complaint with the Sports ministry and the Egyptian Olympic Committee against the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).
Zamalek accused the football governing body of taking positions against the club in several recent incidents, adding that similar complaints would also be lodged against the handball and basketball federations for the same reason.
"Zamalek refuses any violations to the club's rights and will escalate the matter against the football, handball, and basketball federations," the club said in a statement after an urgent meeting for the club interim board early on Monday.
"We want several incidents to be investigated, and the club maintains its right to escalate to get its full rights," the statement added, warning that the club will no longer participate in sports events related to the mentioned three federations before being informed with the investigations' results.
Zamalek snatched a late 1-1 league draw with Pyramids FC on Sunday in a game that witnessed some controversial decisions by the referee.
In Monday's statement, Zamalek blamed the football association for appointing referees who are "against the club in Zamalek matches."
Zamalek also attacked the football association for confirming the previous harsh 12-game ban on midfielder Emam Ashour on Sunday after allegedly hiding the appeal lodged by the club's management.
Ashour was hit with the ban last April for making offensive chants against arch-rivals Ahly and some of their officials following the end of a youth league game.
Finally, Zamalek accused the handball federation of granting the Egypt Cup title for rivals Ahly last season "illegally", while the basketball federation was also blamed for putting "illegal" sanctions on the club after cancelling the derby against Ahly last month.
After Sunday's draw, Zamalek lead the League table with 41 points from 19 games, four ahead holders Ahly, who still have three games in hand.
