Egypt's health ministry said on Tuesday that over 45 percent of the capacity of hospitals treating coronavirus cases nationwide is unoccupied, denying reports on resorting to university hostels to deal with COVID-19 patients as the country is witnessing a third wave of the pandemic. A statement by the ministry on Tuesday stressed the availability of liquid medical oxygen supply, a lifeline for coronavirus patients who experience a drop in their levels of oxygen, saying it amounts to 2.2 million litres in all isolation hospitals. The ministry also said there is a "sufficient" stock of medicines and preventive supplies required at these hospitals. Egypt has designated over 350 hospitals across the country to deal with patients who suffer from serious coronavirus symptoms, allocating hotlines to communicate with those who develop mild and moderate symptoms. As the country struggles a third wave of the pandemic, officials have been urging citizens to stick to all preventative measures as well as to hurry up with the registration for receiving the coronavirus vaccines A noticeable increase in coronavirus infections has been seen over the past weeks, with over 1,800 infections reported over the past 48. The country has reported a total of 223,514 infections, including 167,900 recoveries and 13,107 deaths.
