Egyptian prosecution ordered on Monday night the release of journalist Sulafa Magdy and her husband photojournalist Hossam El-Sayyad pending investigation in charges of "joining a terrorist group and misusing social media platforms". The release of the couple, which comes 18 months after their arrest, came few hours following the release of journalist and politician Khaled Dawoud who had been in pre-trial detention since December 2019. In response, Head of Journalists Syndicate Diaa Rashwan wrote a post on his official FaceBook page hailing the Public Prosecution following their release. "Thanks God, and thanks to the Public Prosecution, the judicial authorities, and all the concerned parties for the release of our colleague Hossam El-Sayyad and Sulafa Magdy... Ramadan Kareem for you [both] with your son Khaled and the whole family." At least 27 journalists are still imprisoned, some of whom are members of the syndicate, according to Journalists Syndicate's figures.
