Artistic Creativity Centre

Thurs 8, 6.30pm: "Okasha: Who gave the Impossible a Chance", an evening in celebration of the World Heritage Day and the centenary of the late Tharwat Okasha, Egypt's former culture minister. It sheds light on the role of Okasha, who saved the two temples of Abu Simbel after building the High Dam and exposing them to drowning along with many Egyptian antiquities, in what was known as the "Save the Monuments of Nubia" campaign. It includes a lecture by the architect Hamdy Al-Satouhi, founder of the Abu Simbel campaign, titled "Abu Simbel: Lesson of the Past and the Future". The event also includes the screening of the rare film, The Eighth Miracle by international director John Feeney, which reviews more than 80 paintings and dozens of artistic sketches made by the great artist Hussein Bikar for the transfer of the two temples. It is accompanied by the symphonic poem, Abu Simbel by Aziz Al-Shewan, played by Balance clarinet quartet.

Italy is celebrating the 700th death anniversary of Dante Alighieri, from 12 March to 4 July 2021. So, the Italian Institute continues to post videos in Arabic with translations from Dante Alighieri's masterpiece The Divine Comedy to bring the Arab-speaking public closer to the work of the supreme poet. Videos are directed by Giabluca Barbadori, with the special participation of Ashraf Farouk, Amir Salaheddin, Sherine Hegazy, and Sara El Mokadem.
