Census authorities: Egypt's population already 90 million
The latest official figures say there are 82 million in Egypt and eight million abroad

The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued a statement on Thursday announcing that the number of Egyptians inside the country has reached 82 million while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs estimates the number of Egyptians abroad at eight million, making a total population of 90 million Egyptians.
According to CAPMAS, in Egypt 50.7 per cent of the population is male and 49.3 female.
Governorates with the highest population are: Cairo (10.8 per cent), Giza (8.6 per cent) and Sharqiyya (7.4 per cent); governorates with the lowest population are: South Sinai (0.2 per cent), New Valley (0.3 per cent) and Red Sea (0.4 per cent). Governorates with the highest population density are Cairo and Guiza (46,349 and 5902 per sq km, respectively), while those with the lowest are South Sinai and Suez (9.5 and 64.5 per sq km, respectively).
Population is concentrated in 7.7 per cent of Egypt's area: the Nile valley and the Delta.
