Egyptian film Curfew (Hazr Tagawel, 2020) will be screened at the upcoming Pune International Film Festival (PIFF). Its 19th edition will take place between 18 and 25 March in Pune, a city located in the west of India's Maharashtra state, which was once a capital of the vast Maratha Empire.
Directed by Amir Ramses, Curfew is the only Egyptian film to participate at the festival and is to be screened within the PIFF's Global Cinema section.
The festival was initially scheduled to take place in January 2021 but due to the pandemic it was moved twice, finally it will be in the first half of March, setting its inauguration on 18 March. The festival will run until 25 March.
Curfew premiered during the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) which took place in December 2020. Leading actress Elham Shahin (Elham Shaheen) won the best actress award during the Cairo festival, sharing the award with Natalya Pavlenkova for her role in Conference.
The plot of Curfew takes place on 14 August 2013 during a state-enforced curfew, unveiling the emotions of the film's characters resulting from unusual circumstances as they interact with one location.
As the director Amir Ramses revealed in one of the interviews for Ahram Online, Curfew is the film that tackles social and not political issues.
Curfew stars Elham Shahin, Mahmoud El-Leithy, Amina Khalil and Ahmed Magdy.
The film will be also screened during the upcoming Malmo Arab Film Festival (7-10 April) in Sweden.
