Egypt welcomed the Libyan parliament's decision to voice confidence in the new unity government on Wednesday, said Ahmed Hafez, the spokesman of the Egyptian foreign ministry. Hafez added that "Egypt values the role of the interim government in restoring Libya's stability, security, and sovereignty to ease the suffering of its people." Libya's parliament voted earlier today to back the unity government led by interim Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh. The parliament approved PM Dbeibeh's cabinet by 132 votes to two against during a session in the city of Sirte. Egypt seeks to work with the Libyan Government of National Unity during the interim stage to implement the political roadmap, Hafez said. "This aims to ensure that elections, which are scheduled for December 2021. take place, and that the outcomes of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission and meetings on its economic recovery are implemented, in order to save Libya from the current conundrum and achieve regional security and stability," Hafez added.
