Egypt detected 588 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, bringing total infections up to 185,922 since the outbreak last year. The health ministry reported 38 fatalities, bringing the death toll to 10,954. 432 patients have been discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours to bring recoveries nationwide up to 143,575. Egypt began its vaccination rollout for priority groups on Thursday, which include the elderly and people with chronic diseases. Egypt currently administers doses of the Chinese Sinopharm and the British-Swedish Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines, both of which were granted emergency use authorisation by authorities earlier this year. It has received 350,000 doses of the Chinese vaccine and 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine since December. The Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine was also authorised for emergency use in February; yet has not yet been delivered to Egypt.
