Journalsit Doaa Abdel-Moneim has won first place at the Nawal Omar Journalism Award for her data-enhanced feature "SDGs vs COVID-19 in developing countries: The acid test," the award's supervisory committee announced late on Sunday. The article, published by Ahram Online in December, tackles the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic on daily life and sustainable development goals (SDGs), especially in developing countries and emerging markets. The second prize was clinched by Akhbar El-Yom's Journalist Ahmed Saad for a series of feature stories that he wrote on the pandemic, while the third went to Shimaa Adel and Radwa Hashem from Al-Watan newspaper, for their joint series of articles on the financial and social ramification of the pandemic on the Egyptian society. Veto news website's Journalist Sabry El-Deeb won the fourth prize for his articles on the government's handling of the pandemic. With the participation of media and journalism figures, an award ceremony will be organised soon at the Al-Ahram establishment to hand out the prizes for the winners. The award, organised by Al-Ahram in collaboration with the Egyptian Journalists syndicate, is held annually in honour of Al-Ahram's prominent late Journalist Nawal Omar.
