Six journalists are competing to preside over Egypt's Journalists Syndicate, the supervising committee of the syndicate's elections announced on Monday. According to Al-Ahram newspaper, the supervising committee closed the door for nomination on Monday, adding that 55 journalists are running for the syndicate's board. The six journalists contesting the chairmanship of the syndicate are: Sayed El-Iskandrani, from the state-owned El-Gomhouriya daily; Diaa Rashwan, from the state-owned Al-Ahram daily; Talaat Hasham, from the independent Young Egypt newspaper; Karam Yehia, from the Nasserite independent El-Mashad; Raafat Rashad from the state-owned Akhbar Al-Yom; and Mohamed El-Maghrabi, from the independent El-Shaab. Rashwan has been the head of the syndicate since 2019. Aside from working in Al-Ahram, he heads the State Information Service. The elections of the head of the syndicate are part of the midterm elections.
