Chairman of the Palestinian Authority (PA) Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to arrive in Cairo on Sunday to meet with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in light of their coordination to eliminate the challenges preventing the Palestinian people from attaining their rights.
Palestinian Ambassador to Cairo Diab Al-Louh said in a statement the summit between El-Sisi and Abbas “embodies coordination and continuous and permanent cooperation towards various issues at the Arab, regional and international levels, in an extremely special time the entire region is going through.”
Al-Louh, also Palestinian permanent representative to the Arab League, said Abbas' visit comes in light of the two presidents' coordination to help the Palestinian people achieve their right in establishing an independent state with full sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Al-Louh hailed the stance of the Egyptian leadership and people in supporting the people of Palestine and their just issue.
“[Egypt] has considered the Palestinian cause an issue of Egyptian national security, has given it full priority and care and has made tremendous sacrifices for its sake throughout history,” Al-Louh added.
Egypt has reiterated in official statements its call for an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. It has also voiced rejection of Israeli annexation plans on occupied Palestinian territories.
President El-Sisi is currently in Juba, where he held negotiations with South Sudanese counterpart Salva Kiir on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
