Egypt decried the attack on Shaqiq Port in south Saudi Arabia which took place on Wednesday, the Egyptian foreign ministry said on Thursday. The joint forces of the Saudi Arabian-led Arab Coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen destroyed a booby-trapped boat to thwart a terrorist attack, resulting in damages to a Greek oil tanker. The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis in Yemen said a commercial vessel suffered minor damage from shrapnel in a foiled terrorist attack, the state media reported late Wednesday. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said the vessel was operating at an oil-fired power plant at Shaqiq when the explosion took place. It said investigations are ongoing, Reuters reported. The foreign ministry statement affirmed Egypt's condemnation of aggressive incidents that target the territorial waters of and vital installations in Saudi Arabia, and which represent a direct threat to the freedom of international trade and the security and freedom of international navigation. Egypt reiterated its support for Saudi Arabia in its efforts to defend its territories, maintain its security and stability, and combat terrorism, the statement added. Egypt has repeatedly expressed its full support for the Saudi Arabian-led coalition against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, saying the Iran-backed movement's practices further inflame the situation in Yemen.
