Newcastle "within touching distance" of achieving Champions League dream, says Cisse Senegal's Goal-hungry Cisse dreams of playing at UEFA Champions League, sees Newcastle close to that achievement
After his outstanding performances with the Magpies, Senegal's striker Papiss Cisse revealed that his "dream" to play in the UEFA Champions League may become a reality as Newcastle is close to entering the top four at the end of the English Premier League season. The Senegalese striker's goal rush continued in Monday's 2-0 win over Bolton, keeping his team on course to play European football next season. Newcastle share the same points (59) with Tottenham who are fourth in the league table, the geordie team are only one below on a goal difference. "Everyone is trying to stay calm. But of course it would be fantastic for this club to be in the Champions League," Cisse was quoted as saying by Skysports. The 26-year old player has now scored ten goals in nine matches since being signed for a relatively modest £10 million ($16 million) from German club Freiburg by Newcastle manager Alan Pardew in the January transfer window. "It is within touching distance and yet still there are five games to go, which is a long way," Cisse admitted, but added he still believes Newcastle can do it. "We don't really want to talk about it as we must take it match by match but of course it's difficult not to think about it. We are now so close," the Senegalese international explained, adding that the team must keep going and "giving everything." "Of course I've watched the results in other matches. That is only natural. I'm human. Chelsea scored in the last minute against Wigan, which was a shame for us, but there are still five games and 15 points at stake," Cisse concluded, "We're there with several other teams in with a chance of making it. I can't believe it, but we are." (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter:@AO Sports) http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/39028.aspx
