Parliament to discuss proposals for constituent assembly membership Saturday Parliament will discuss Saturday the proposals concerning criteria for electing constituent assembly representatives that will draft Egypt's new constitution
Egypt's parliament is set to discuss during Saturday's session, as scheduled, all proposals regarding the makeup of the constituent assembly committee that will draft Egypt's post-Mubarak constitution. Parliament formed the committee to review the proposals submitted within the past weeks suggesting the criteria for membership on the constituent assembly. The subcommittee is tasked with presenting all suggestions to parliament for debate. The parliament had announced on 3 March the formation of the constituent assembly committee, made up of speakers of both Upper and Lower Houses of parliament and their deputies. An invitation was open until 8 March to submit proposals. Today, 17 March, is the date scheduled for a parliamentary-wide review of the proposals. Based on the conclusions, parliament is to build the constituent assembly on 24 March.
