Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has approved a proposal submitted by the governor of Marsa Matrouh to name a main street in the governorate after an employee at a quarantine hospital who died after contracting the coronavirus.
Nagi Saleh El-Garary, a 51-year-old stock-keeper at Negelah quarantine hospital, died on Saturday due to complications from the disease.
A health unit in the village of El-Raml in the governorate has already been renamed in El-Garary's honour.
Mabbouly's decision came during a video conference with the country's governors on Thursday.
The Negelah hospital was the first hospital designated for quarantining and treating coronavirus patients in Egypt.
Egyptians repatriated from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus, in early February were sent to the facility.
The country has since expanded efforts to contain the virus by allocating another 13 health ministry hospitals for quarantining coronavirus patients.
On Monday, a senior nurse at the Negelah hospital died as a result of contracting the coronavirus.
Sayed Mohamed El-Mohsenawy, 47, suffered from diabetes, which made him prone to complications from the virus, according to the hospital's deputy manager, Mohamed Taleb.
