Four Egyptian state-owned pharmaceutical companies have raised their production of sanitisers to four tonnes to meet increased demand in the domestic market fuelled by the coronavirus outbreak. The companies have increased the production of 110-200 ml canisters of ethyl alcohol to 75,000 and 1 litre canisters to 20,000 a day. According to a statement issued on Sunday, the four companies are Nile For Pharmaceuticals and Chemical Industries, El-Arabeya Co. For Pharmaceutical & Chemical Industries, Nasr Company for Pharmaceutical Industries, Memphis Pharma and Chemical Industry. The production increase is also meant to counter the rising price of sanitisers in the domestic market, according the statement. Egypt detected on Saturday 145 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of cases so far to 1,939 nationwide. Eleven new deaths have been reported from the virus on Saturday, bringing the total number of fatalities to 146 since the beginning of the outbreak.
