Salafist MP accused of lying about plastic surgery resigns
Nour Party declared that the MP, accused of lying about a recent nose job, and manufacturing a robbery tale has resigned from the party and from Parliament

The Salafist Nour Party has announced that MP Anwar El-Balkimy, who is currently embroiled in a scandal regarding his apparent nose job, has resigned from both the party and the parliament.
The statement on the party's official Facebook page said that the head of the Nour Party, Emad Abd El-Ghafour questioned El-Balkimy in hospital concerning whether there was actually an assault attempt made against the MP.
El-Balkimy had originally told reporters from his hospital bed that he had been attacked by a group of masked gunmen while on the Cairo-Alexandria desert highway on 29 February. With his face wrapped in bandages, El-Balkimy recounted how the assailants had beaten him – leaving him unconscious in the road – before stealing some LE100,000.
Allegations, however, subsequently emerged that the MP's facial injuries were actually the result of a plastic surgery. Last week employees of a plastic-surgery clinic in Giza's Agouza district alleged that the MP had undergone plastic surgery on his nose on the same day of the alleged attack. The bandages on El-Balkimy's face, they claimed, did not cover injuries sustained in an attack, but rather masked the effects of a plastic surgery.
El-Ghafour, according to the party's statement, learned that the MP had not been attacked as he had claimed and that his bandages were in fact the result of plastic surgery.
As a result, the party demanded an official apology, to both the party and the parliament, as well as to the hospital's doctors whom El-Bakimy had claimed were lying. El-Balkimy also handed in his resignation from the Nour party and as a member of parliament.
