A minor earthquake measuring 3.4 magnitude on the Richter scale hit northeastern Hurghada in the early hours of Monday, Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIA) said in a statement. The quake was felt on Monday at 4:51 am local time, with no injury or property damage reported, the NRIA added. Egypt is typically an earthquake safe country that rarely sees earthquakes annually. In 1992, an earthquake measuring 5.6 hit the country, killing 541 people and injuring 6,522 others. In 1903, Egypt was hit by the strongest earthquake in the country's recent memory, which killed 10,000 people.
