Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli has said the country's school feeding programme is a main tool of social protection and an essential pillar of the social safety net. Madbouli's remarks came Sunday during a meeting with executive director of the UN World Food Programme (UNWFP) David Beasley on the sidelines of his participation in the third edition of the World Youth Forum (WYF), held in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The school feeding programme has a positive impact on children's health and their ability to concentrate, Madbouli noted.
The prime minister hailed the cooperation between Egypt and UNWFP to achieve food self-sufficiency as part of accomplishing Egypt's Vision 2030 goals.
Beasley, for his part, expressed his happiness to participate in the WYF, lauding the Egyptian government's efforts to achieve food security.
Beasley said he considers the school feeding programme as the core of the educational support UNWFP offers.
The UN agency, in partnership with the government, offers help to people who live in Egypt's remote places and the countryside and raises awareness about ways to adapt to climate change, he pointed out.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed on exchanging expertise and studying all suggestions for further cooperation.
