Egypt President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi urged in a call with German Chancellor Angela Merkel an end to foreign intervention in Libyan affairs, an Egyptian Presidency statement read. The presidency said Merkel called El-Sisi early Friday to discuss developments in Libya, in light of Egypt's role in the region and its current chairmanship of the African Union. El-Sisi stressed to the German chancellor Egypt's unwavering strategic stances on the Libyan crisis, represented in the need to rebuild Libya's foundations and institutions; terminating chaos and the influx of criminal groups and terrorist militias; placing the combating terrorism as the highest priority; and restoring security and stability. The President said foreign intervention in Libyan affairs exacerbates current coflict conditions, and threatens the security and stability of the Middle East and the Mediterranean region. He also affirmed the need to honor the Libyan people's aspiration for the return of stability and beginning of the process of comprehensive development in the country. El-Sisi and Merkel also discussed bilateral relations between Cairo and Berlin. Merkel stressed her country's interest in boosting cooperation with Egypt in various fields.
