Media or football for new EFA board members, not both Egyptian football's interim governing body to adopt FIFA regulations and prevent people from working both in media and association
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have revealed that new regulations -- more in line with FIFA recommendations -- are soon to be applied. “No one will be able to work inside the associations and in the media field at the same time,” EFA spokesman Azmy Megahed told Ahram Online. This decision is expected to upset many Egyptian media sport icons who may have had ambitions to be elected to the new EFA board. Aside from insisting EFA apply their international regulations, the international governing body of football has approved, in an official letter, the appointment of Anwar Saleh as EFA caretaking chairman. Saleh will replace Samir Zaher who resigned following the Ahly-Masry fan clashes at a recent match in Port Said that left over 70 dead and hundreds injured. All football activities have been temporarily suspended since the 1 February league game. It is expected that they will not resume until the 40-day mourning period ends, while investigations are still taking place. “A special meeting of the association's members will be held in May to approve FIFA regulations,” Megahed confirmed. The former EFA board, which was elected during the former president Hosni Mubarak's regime, had previously made excuses for delaying the application of FIFA's new system. “We will meet to elect the new board right after the 2012 London Olympics games [that finish 12 August],” Megahed concluded.
