General Egyptian Book Organisation wins majority of Cairo International Book Fair awards
Various awards were announced Tuesday at the closing ceremony of Cairo Book Fair, in the presence of the minister of culture

The General Egyptian Book Organisation (GEBO) took six prizes for the best 10 books released on 2011 in 10 different fields: novels, short stories, poetry, arts, Science, human sciences, heritage, and children's books. Each prize is worth LE10,000 (approximately $1,655).
The prizes were distributed among publishing houses as follows: six prizes went to GEBO, two to Merit Publishing, one to Anglo Publishing House, and one for Dar Al-Shorouk Publishing.
The Best Novel Award went to Saakoun Kama Oureed (I'll Be What I Want) by writer Hamdi Abdel Reheem, published by Al-Shorouk.
The Best Poetry Collection Award went to Almidan (The Square) by the renowned poet Abdel Rahman El-Abnoudy, published by GEBO.
The Best Slang Poetry Collection Award went to Irfa Rasak Alyenna (Raise Your Head High) by famous poet Helmi Salem, published by GEBO.
The Best Arts Book Award went to Fonnon Algraffitti Ard Ard (Graffiti Arts, Land Land) by Sherif Abdel Maguied, published by GEBO.
The Best Short Stories Collection Award went to Ahlam Al-Yaqaza (Day Dreams), by Haitham Al-Wardani, published by Merit.
The Best Book in the Human Sciences Award went to Saykologeyat Al-Daggal (Psychology of the Charlatan) by Talaat Hakim, published by Anglo Publishing House.
The Best Heritage Book Award went to Serrat Al-Imam Mohammed Abdou (Life of Imam Mohammed Abdou) by Mohammed Rasheed Reda, published by GEBO.
The Best Children's Book Award went to 25 Oghney lel Atfal A'n Thawrat 25 Yanayer (25 songs of the 25 January Revolution), published by GEBO.
The Best Political Book Award went to Aldeen Wal Thawra Wal Taefeeya (Religion, Revolution and Sectarianism) by renowned political writer Nabil Abdel Fattah, published by Merit.
The Best Scientific Book Award went to Mostaqbal Al-Taqa Alnawaweyya Wal Aman Al-Arabi (Future of Nuclear Power and Arabian Safety) by Mohammed Zaki Owaiss, published by GEBO.
Haithem El-Wardani is an Egyptian writer born in 1972 who resides between Cairo and Berlin. He has two collections of short stories along with translations from German to Arabic, including some texts by German critic Walter Benjamin.
