Algeria coach Belmadi praises Ounas, refuses comparisons with 1990s team

Despite the notable performance delivered by Algeria at the current Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, the north African team's coach Djamel Belmadi refuses to make the comparison between the current team and the 1990s team which won their only AFCON title.
"We won the three matches of the first stage to equalize the same achievement of the 1990s team, but we can't be compared to them because they achieved the title at the time," the 43-year-old coach told Algerian newspaper El Heddaf on Tuesday.
"We achieved an outstanding results in the group stage, but the road for the title is still long," the former Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille player said.
Algerian Belmadi also praised the team's midfield hero Adam Ounas, who scored two goals on Monday's 3-0 victory against Tanzania, and provided an assist for the third.
"He played a good game and scored two goals, and made remarkable statistics, and was named man of the match," the Desert Foxes coach added.
Tanzania's match was the first for the 22-year-old Napoli midfielder Ounas in the current AFCON.
Algeria has qualified to round of 16 of the African tournament, after winning their 3 matches against Kenya, Senegal, and Tanzania respectively. They are scheduled to face the third placed team of Group A, B, or F on Sunday.
