The Tunisian national team announced Tuesday night its final squad for this month's 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, including Zamalek winger Ferjani Sassi, while Ahly's left-back Ali Maaloul wasn't available. Despite calling him up in the preliminary squad announced 24 May, and also appearing in Monday's 2-1 friendly win over Croatia, Ahly defender Maaloul was surprisingly omitted from the final roster. Étoile du Sahel's Karim Aouadhi replaced Maaloul in the final squad that included Sassi who cleared himself fit for the tournament after playing the final 15 minutes against Croatia. The midfield maestro, Sassi, underwent surgery recently for a foot injury that had kept him off the field for over a month. Under the helm of Tunisia coach Alain Giresse, the Eagles of Carthage started their preparatory camp for AFCON 2019 on 1 June. Tunisia were drawn in Group E alongside Mali, Mauritania and Angola. The Nations Cup, which has been expanded to 24 teams, will take place in Egypt from 21 June to 19 July.
