President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inspected Sunday progress on the final phase of work on Rod El-Farag Axis Bridge in preparation for its opening soon. The bridge, built by the armed forces with a large number of civil construction companies, is expected to enter the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest bridge in width over a waterway, at 66.8 metres, according to the Egyptian government. The Rod El-Farag Axis Bridge links areas in northern and eastern Cairo with west Cairo, aiming to facilitate traffic and reduce commuting time. It will be parallel to the 26 July Corridor, which links 6th of October City and Sheikh Zayed City with Greater Cairo. In March 2018, President El-Sisi inspected the second phase of the project in addition to progress on the Tahya Misr Eastern Bridge, which is considered world's longest flyover bridge and has been carried out in full by 100 percent Egyptian companies. Work on the project started in 2015.
