Egypt's interior ministry said the police foiled a bomb attack in a busy area in Giza on Friday. Explosive experts defused a home-made bomb that aimed to target a security checkpoint near El-Istiqama mosque in Giza on the outskirts of Greater Cairo, the ministry said in a statement. A security official told Ahram Online that two improvised bombs were thrown from a bridge at members of a security checpoint in the area. One civilian was injured by shrapnel, he added. Al-Ahram Arabic news website published phoos from the site showing smashed glass on the street, a shattered car window and a damaged apartment building door. The ministry blamed “members of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group” for the attack. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Egypt designated the Brotherhood a terrorist organisation in late 2013, months following the ouster of its Islamist president Mohamed Morsi after mass protests against his rule.
