Reminiscing about good old days, Egypt signs kit supply deal with Puma
Published in Ahram Online on 22 - 01 - 2019

Thirteen years after Egypt won the African Nations Cup on home soil wearing a famous Puma kit, the national team signed another kit supply deal with the German sportswear firm on Tuesday, less than six months before the country stages the tournament again.
"Egypt has an amazing track record and we are very excited to once again supply them with our products," Johan Adamsson, Puma's director of sports marketing, said in a statement.
"We hope that Puma and the Pharaohs can continue where they left off, by taking the title in the next Africa Cup of Nations in 2019."
The Egyptian Football Association, which opted not to renew a deal with Puma's German rivals Adidas, said Puma will supply football kits to all national teams on the youth and senior levels.
The Adidas t-shirt, which Egypt wore at last year's World Cup finals in Russia, was heavily criticised by many supporters, who said its design was not up to the standards of the seven-time African champions.
Egypt wore the Puma kit during a hugely-successful four-year stint that saw them win the Nations Cup three straight times -- an unprecedented feat in the continent.
The country will stage next summer's Nations Cup for the fifth time after hosting the tournament in 1959, 1974, 1986 and 2006.
It replaced Cameroon as hosts after the central African country was stripped of the hosting rights in November, with African governing body CAF citing delays in its preparations for the expanded 24-team tournament.
