The Iraqi government revealed an agreement to extend an oil pipeline between Iraq and neighboring Jordan, a heavy oil importer. The pipeline will help transport crude oil to the Zarqa refinery in Jordan, according to Aljazeera website. The Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company (JPRC) operates the only refinery in the country. It is located at Zarqa, 30 km north-east of Amman, and has an annual output of some 4-5 million tons, according to the World Bank. Iraqi oil supply to Jordan amounts to 10,000 barrels per day, meeting just 10 per cent of Jordan's energy needs. A previous agreement, signed between the two countries earlier in 2008, set the barrel price at $22 below the market price. The two sides discussed ways to increase Jordan's imports of Iraqi crude oil at discounted prices for a quantity of 30 thousand barrels per day.
