Egypt's Ismaily reached the group stage on their first African Champions League appearance in eight years despite slumping to a 2-1 loss at Cameroon's Coton Sport in the second leg of the competition's round of 32 on Saturday. Enjoying a 2-0 first-leg advantage, Ismaily looked to have put the result beyond doubt when they went ahead after just four minutes. Cameroonian striker Christopher Mendouga was tripped by Coton Sport goalkeeper Sabirou Bassa-Djeri after breaking clear, with Egyptian international defender Baher El-Mohamadi dispatching the resulting penalty. Ismaily could have increased their lead had it not been for some glaring misses from Abdel-Rahman Magdy and Tunisian forward Lassad Jaziri in one-on-one situations. They were punished for their profligacy when Coton Sport scored two minutes before the break, Ngweni Ndassi firing home on the rebound after a weak save by the keeper parried the ball into his path. Needing three more goals to advance, Coton Sport were given a glimmer of hope when Kamilou Daouda converted a 66th-minute penalty. However, Ismaily held on to book a place in the group stage with a 3-2 aggregate win and give new Macedonian coach Cedomir Janevski a winning start.
