Ahli held Coton Sport of Cameroon to a 2-2 draw to win an unprecedented sixth CAF Champions League title and enforce their position as Africa's most successful club. After beating Coton Sport 2-0 in the final's first leg in Cairo, the Red Devils came back from the return leg in Garoua with a 2-2 draw, taking the result to a 4-2 win on aggregate. Ahmed Hassan opened the scoring for Ahli on 38 minutes before Lassina Abdoul-Karim leveled for Coton in the first half's injury time. In the second half, Coton went ahead thanks to an Ousmaila Baba header. However, Ahli refused to end their campaign with a defeat as Shadi Mohamed converted a late penalty for the equalizer. The hosts started the game with attempts to score an early goal, which would have brought them back in the tie after their 2-0 first leg defeat in Cairo. In the second minute Amir Abdul-Hamid was called into action when he bravely punched away a right flank cross ahead of Baba's inevitable header. Abdul-Hamid denied Coton once again, saving Abdoul-Karim's long range effort after 21 minutes. Moments later, the unguarded Baba headed Abdoul-Karim's corner high at Ahli's far post. On 38 minutes, Ahli put one hand on the Champions League trophy thanks to an Ahmed Hassan strike. Hassan was found in the box by a Mohamed Abou-Treika's cross, and the Egypt skipper cleverly curled a volley past Kassaly Daouda in the Coton goal. Right before the first half whistle, Coton equalized after Daouda Kamilou's low cross was met by a powerful left footed effort from Abdoul-Karim. In the second half, Ahli coach Manuel Jose replaced full-back Ahmed Sedik with Sayed Moawad. The latter took his position at left back with Mohamed Barakat and Gilberto shifting to right-back and center of midfield respectively.

The striker chipped his shot past Abdul-Hamid before Wael Gomaa cleared off the line. Nearly ten minutes later, Kamilou's pinpoint pass found Baba in the Ahli box and the latter's volley was brilliantly saved by Abdul-Hamid. Jose was forced to make another substitution after Hassan picked up an injury and had to be taken off for Anis Boujelbene. Abdul-Hamid's heroics couldn't stop Coton from scoring a second on 63 minutes when Abdoul-Karim's free kick was headed by Kamilou in Baba's path, who headed into the empty net. Coton had a golden opportunity to set the final alight and add a third when Sebastien Kana's cross caught Ahli's defense napping, but Kamilou headed just inches high. After withholding the Coton pressure, Ahli finally regained the game's momentum as the heat and effort started to take their toll on the Cameroonian opponents. Fifteen minutes from time, superstar Mohamed Abou-Treika, who didn't have the best of games, was replaced by Ahmed Fathi, It was Fathi's first game in more than six months due to injury. As the game reached its dying moments, Flavio Amado led a counter attack after single handedly winning the ball from three Coton players in the center of midfield. The Angolan then sent a great pass to Barakat who skillfully won a penalty after being fouled by Andre Ndame Ndame in the box. Skipper Shadi Mohamed stepped up confidently to take the spot kick and successfully sent Daouda the wrong way with his low shot. After reaching the competition's final for four consecutive seasons, Ahli's trophy is now the club's third out of the competition's last four versions.
