Sudan
Factbox on Sudan
Published in Ahram Online on 17 - 01 - 2012

Qualifying campaign: Sudan went through to the CAN finals after their 13 points tally made them one of the best two second-placed teams in the qualifiers to register their return to Africa's elites after missing the 2010 edition.
History: Sudan are one of the deep-rooted teams in Africa, having participated in the first edition of CAN in 1957 along with Egypt and Ethiopia.
The Falcons made seven appearances in the tournament, winning it only once in 1970 as hosts after beating Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Egypt en route to the final before overcoming Ghana in the decider.
Expectations: Mazda rely on local-based players mostly from Al-Hilal and Merrikh who lack of the vast international experience. However they have shown signs of great mental strength and fighting spirit and would be a tough rival for the second Group B ticket to the quarter-finals as Ivory Coast seem to be the undisputed leaders of the Group.
