Preview: Ahly eyeing resurgence against Gouna in Egyptian league
Published in Ahram Online on 04 - 12 - 2018

Ahly will be looking to build on their 1-0 win over Petrojet when they meet Gouna on Wednesday as they seek to remain in touch with the leading pack in the Egyptian Premier League.
After two successive league defeats coupled with a bitter loss in the African Champions League and elimination from the Arab Zayed Cup last 16, Ahly's season looked to be unraveling.
However, they finally returned to winning ways with a narrow victory over Petrojet last Saturday.
Although Ahly were far from convincing, they at least managed to somewhat assure their fans that they can still challenge for a fourth consecutive league crown despite the recent setbacks.
The Red Devils lie third from bottom in the league table with 14 points but they will be only three points short of leaders and arch-rivals Zamalek if they win their rescheduled games.
They have last week announced the signing of Wadi Degla's Egyptian international midfielder Mohamed Mahmoud as they aim to strengthen an underachieving squad in January.
Ahly are still missing a number of key players through injury, including Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul, Nigerian winger Junior Ajayi and experienced defensive midfielder Hossam Ashour.
Gouna, who are 14th in the table, have endured a poor run of results recently, which led to the departure of coach Hesham Zakareya.
