Pyramids FC sign Syrian striker Omar Kharbin on loan
Published in Ahram Online on 16 - 09 - 2018

Pyramids FC continued their spending spree after announcing on Saturday the signing of Syrian striker Omar Kharbin on a six-month loan deal from Saudi side Al-Hilal.
"Kharbin, the Asian Player of the Year of 2017 and the top scorer of Al-Hilal and the Syrian national team, officially signed a six-month loan contract with Pyramids FC starting from next January with an option to make the deal a permanent one by the end of the season," read a short statement on the Egyptian club's official Twitter account.
Pyramids, formerly known as Assiouty Sport, made some record signings in the summer after being taken over by Saudi investor Turki Al-Sheikh, who is the head of Saudi Arabia's General Sports Authority (GSA).
The 24-year-old Kharbin joined Saudi giants Al-Hilal in January 2017 on a six-month loan deal from UAE's Al-Dhafra, before joining the Saudi team on a permanent basis last summer.
Kharbin won the 2017 Asian Player of the Year award after a stiff competition with UAE's star Omar Abdulrahman. He was also the top scorer of the Asian Champions League of the same year with 10 goals.
He didn't score a single goal in the Saudi league this season, but he scored seven times in 16 league appearances with Al-Hilal last season.
Kharbin, who made his international debut in 2012, was a key element in Syria's campaign at the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, scoring 10 goals in 17 appearances.
Pyramids are currently second of the Egyptian Premier League table with 12 points from six matches, one point behind leaders Zamalek.
