Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting on Tuesday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Endowments Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa to discuss strategies to counter extremist religious ideologies and promote the correct interpretation of Islam and its principals of tolerance. Presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady said the meeting reviewed the endowments minister's plans to counter extremism while differentiating between well-established tenants of the religion and customs and traditions, by providing training for religious preachers. The president called for promoting the correct and moderate interpretation of Islam and refuting the claims of extremist ideologies, which have no relation to the religion. The president also called for fully utilising properties and assets owned by the endowments ministry, and stressed the importance of preserving the state's rights to these properties. The endowments minister also presented a report on the ministry's charity works, highlighting that EGP 300 million have been allocated for charity work and community service in 2018/19.
