Tunisia's Esperance coach Maaloul resigns Nabil Maaloul ends highly successful spell with Tunisia's Esperance, will take up sports analyst post with Al Jazeera
Nabil Maaloul has resigned as coach of Tunisian side Esperance by mutual consent. “Maaloul held a meeting with Esperance president Hamdi Meddeb on Monday and they agreed on his friendly departure from the club,” Assabah newspaper reported on Tuesday. “Maaloul will rest after his successful stint with Esperance before he starts his new job as a sports analyst on the Al Jazeera TV network,” Assabah added. Maaloul, who took charge of the African champions last year, promised he would only return to coaching with Esperance. The 49-year-old coach enjoyed a memorable season in charge, wrapping up three titles. They won the domestic league and cup titles, and their first African Champions League title since 1994 after beating Morocco's Wydad Casablanca 1-0 in the final's second leg. Under the guidance of Maaloul, Esperance had a golden chance to take on Spanish giants Barcelona in the Club World Cup semifinal, but suffered a 2-1 defeat by Qatar's Al-Sadd in the tournament's second round.
