Egypt's newly-appointed Trade and Industry Minister Amr Nassar promised that the upcoming period will see a transformation in Egyptian-Sudanese trade and investment relations, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday. The governments of both countries will work on easing all obstacles to smooth trade and investment activities, the minister said. Nassar made the comments during a phone call with Sudanese counterpart Hatem Al-Ser, who called Nassar to congratulate him on his recent appointment to the ministerial post. Minister Nassar said preparations are underway to hold meetings of the Joint Egyptian-Sudanese Trade Committee to discuss challenges that face bilateral trade. Nassar invited his Sudanese counterpart to Egypt to discuss radical procedures to ease challenges to boosting bilateral cooperation. Minister Nassar praised the historic relations between the two countries and said there is political will from the presidents of both countries to see the level of relations live up to the historical ties between the two peoples. The ministers agreed that Egyptian and Sudanese government officials must meet more often to clear barriers to trade and investment, as well as think of new projects to bring cooperation to new levels of common interests. Sudanese Minister Al-Ser told Nassar that Sudan is committed to implementing agreements and protocols signed with Egypt. Minister Al-Ser also said that Sudan is keen on developing trade and investment relations with Egypt. The Sudanese prime minister has said that it is necessary that problems with Egypt be resolved and that a shift in the level of economic relations be achieved, the Sudanese minister added.
