Egypt moved up one place in the FIFA monthly rankings for June to place 45th globally, one week before the start of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The Pharaohs, who have qualified for their first World Cup competition since 1990, failed to win any of their three pre-World Cup friendlies, drawing with Kuwait and Colombia and losing to Belgium. Egypt rank fifth among African countries in the FIFA rankings, behind Tunisia (21), Senegal (27), Congo DR (38) and Morocco (41). The Pharaohs, who are paired with Saudi Arabia, hosts Russia and South American powerhouse Uruguay in the World Cup's Group A, are third among Arab countries. FIFA's June rankings saw minor position changes in the top 50 places, with Germany still in the lead, ahead of Brazil, Belgium, Portugal and Argentina. Egypt made it into the world's top 10 when they won three successive African Cup of Nations trophies in 2006, 2008 and 2010. In other highlights from June, Azerbaijan was the best mover, jumping 21 places, while Guyana fell hardest, dropping 18 places. FIFA world rankings (May positions in parentheses) 1. Germany (1) 2.
