Ahly's defence trio Ali Maaloul, Saad Samir and Ahmed Fathi have been cleared as fit for Friday's match against Tunisia's Esperance in the African Champions League after recovering from their injuries, while South African attacking midfielder Phakamani Mahlambi could help in the current attacking crisis after being officially registered in the Reds' African squad. Ahly will be hosting the Tunisian giants at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium in the opening match of the group stage of the prestigious African tournament. "Ali Maaloul, Saad Samir and Ahmed Fathi all participated in Wednesday's training," Ahly's official website reported. Tunisian defender Maaloul and teammate Samir missed Ahly's last match against Assyouti in the Egypt Cup on Monday due to different injuries. Veteran right-back Fathi also missed the Cup game due to fatigue. Against Esperance, Ahly will be missing striking duo Walid Azaro and Junior Ajayi due to injury, but South African attacking winger Mahlambi could boost the team's attacking line after being registered in the club's African squad for the first time on Wednesday. Ahly, who have been crowned African champions a record eight times, are drawn in Group A with Esperance alongside Uganda's Kampala City and Botswana's Township Rollers. The Cairo giants, who clinched their last Champions League title in 2013, were close to winning the continental title last year, but lost in the final 2-1 on aggregate to Moroccan side Wydad de Casablanca. Ahly secured the Egyptian league title for the third time in a row last month with six matches to spare.
