Tahya Misr Fund concludes social, health, entertainment activities in Alexandria
Published in Ahram Online on 02 - 05 - 2018

On Friday 27 April, the Tahya Misr Fund concluded a week of activities in Alexandria, which included social, health, and entertainment activities. The fund's presence in Alexandria comes as an extension of the large role it has been playing in Cairo and across Egypt.
The Tahya Misr fund was launched by the Egyptian government in 2014 to receive donations to support the Egyptian economy.
The fund has conducted a medical survey in different parts of Alexandria, including the Siyouf area, El-Gomrok district and the port of Alexandria, to test citizens for the hepatitis C virus (HCV). The fund also distributed 16 tonnes of meat to families in need.
Alexandria governor Mohamed Sultan has praised the work and efforts of the fund, especially in combating hepatitis C.
“The fund has carried out President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's initiative to free Egypt from hepatitis C by 2020” through caravans that are conducting medical tests on citizens throughout the country and providing free treatment.
According to Shady Salem, the fund's deputy director of projects, combating hepatitis C virus is one of the most important projects undertaken by the fund, which has succeeded in shortening waiting periods and in administering therapeutic dosages for free in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.
“The fund has provided homes in Al-Asmarat district in Cairo, as well as Bashayer El-Kheir in Alexandria, for people inhabiting slums, and has also reconstructed a number of villages all over the country for families in need,” Salem stated.
The fund also provides employment opportunities for the youth, and runs a programme to help homeless children.
The president of the youth and sports committee in parliament Mohamed Farag Amer has said that President El-Sisi's initiative to establish the fund came at the right time to solve many problems that plague Egyptian society through different intensive programmes that can reach underprivileged families.
Last Friday, the fund honoured a number of disabled children in accordance with the President El-Sisi's declaration to make 2018 the “year of those challenged with a disability.”
In the same context, the fund has honoured the mothers of members of the police and Armed Forces who were killed in the line of duty.
