The Egyptian and French navies are conducting a joint military drill in the Red Sea, which is a continuation of military partnership and cooperation between the two countries, Egypt's Armed Forces spokesman Tamer El-Refaie said in a statement on Tuesday. The drill involves Egyptian and French Mistral helicopter carriers, frigates and missile corvettes. The training also includes drills using live ammunition, anti-terror operations and boosting maritime security. Part of the drill involved exercises on a French Mistral ship, which were attended by Egyptian naval Commander-in-Chief Ahmed Khaled. El-Refaie said the drill comes "in light of military cooperation with friend and brother countries, and an exchange of training expertise by the participating forces for two countries joined by long-time partnership and cooperation in various fields." Last February, the Egyptian and French navies carried out the joint exercise "Cleopatra 2018" in the Red Sea, which involved exercises that coincided with Egypt's counterterrorism Operation Sinai 2018.
