A body believed to belong to Mohamed Hassan, a 21-year old Alexandrian man who was hit by a suspected drunk driver on the city's Stanley Bridge last Tuesday, was discovered and retrieved from the ocean on Monday, Alexandria's Civil Defense department said. Hassan and one companion fell from the bridge into the water after being hit by the vehicle at dawn on the landmark bridge last Tuesday. The other victim was rescued from drowning hours later, while a third friend on the bridge was not struck by the car. The victim's relatives and friends were unable to identify the body due to advanced decomposition. The prosecution has ordered DNA testing to verify his identity, but final results are still pending. Meanwhile, a misdemeanor judge ordered the renewal of a 15-day detention for the suspected driver, pending investigation on charges of involuntary manslaughter and injury, driving while intoxicated and vandalization of public property. The supected driver, a Menoufia University student, was arrested at the scene and administered a toxicology test. Hundreds of divers and civil defense team members have been searching for Hassan throughout the past week.
