Art Alert: Diamond Dust play at Falaki Theatre
Published in Ahram Online on 19 - 12 - 2017

Adapted from Ahmed Morad's novel of the same name, Diamond Dust is a play by Ahmed Hamed that promises a gripping and cinematic vision of the story on stage.
The play had its first season in 2016 and was staged in several venues, including El-Sawy Culturewheel, where Ahmed Morad was in attendance.
Diamond Dust follows protagonist Taha El-Zahar, who begins to see the world differently after the death of his father at the hands of a street thug. Taha's emotions are only heightened when he discovers his father's diary, which details the vigilante crimes he committed during his childhood in the Jewish quarter.
When Taha finds himself travelling a similar vigilante path as his father, he questions if the end justifies the means.
Hamed both directs and performs in the play, starring as the protagonist, alongside actors Islam Ahmed, Taha Zaghloul, Yousry Ibrahim, and Menna Wagih.
This is not the first of Morad's works to be adapted for the theatre. El-Feel El-Azraq (The Blue Elephant) has been adapted for the theatre, as a dance performance, and as a film starring Karim Abdel Aziz.
His novel Vertigo was adapted for a television series in 2012, and his latest novel Ard El-Elah (Land of God) was released in March.
The producers of Diamond Dust have said that the play is not suitable for children.
Tickets can be bought at the theatre either on the day or ahead of time.
Programme:
The play opens on 22 December at 7pm and will run on 23, 29, 30, 31 December at 6pm and 8pm
AUC Falaki Theatre, 24 Falaki Street, Downtown, Cairo
