10th edition of Luxor International Painting Symposium opens
Published in Ahram Online on 13 - 12 - 2017

The 10th Luxor International Painting Symposium opened this week featuring 25 Egyptian and international artists.

The symposium runs until 24 December and is organised by the Culture Development Fund (CDF) under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, with assistance from the City of Luxor's Supreme Council.

Selected artists will be producing their projects as they spend two weeks at multi-purpose studios situated in Luxor's temples and historic cemeteries area, previously El-Gorna village before its people were relocated to a new village.

The aim of the symposium is to foster an exchange between Egyptian and international artists as they produce their artworks in the serenity of Luxor's environs.

The CDF will collect the completed works by the artists to be displayed in a museum still in the making, and at other establishments and public locations.

The artists' participation is in four different categories: 12-15 recipients of the Studio Grant for artists under 30, one Resident Artist over 30 years of age that is invited, the Luxor International Symposium for Creative Arts, which includes 25 artists, and an Artistic Skills Development Programme for Amateurs, in which artists can enroll for a three-month study term.

This year there are four Arabs, 11 expatriates and 10 Egyptian artists.

The participating expatriates are from Sudan, Russia, Italy, Nigeria, Azerbaijan, Nepal, Serbia, Lithuania, Ethiopia and Romania.

Artists from the Arab world come from Lebanon, Jordan, and two from Iraq.

Egyptian artists at the Symposium are Weaam El-Masry, Noha Nagui, Nihal Wahby, Mahmoud Soliman, Mohamed Khedr, Mohamed El-Moslemany, Fatma Abdel-Rahman, Shereen El-Baroudy, Sahar El-Amir and Hanafy Mahmoud.
