The second Art in the Street symposium for public art will take place in Luxor on 18 January, taking art out of galleries and into the community and onto the streets. The symposium emerged from a four-day workshop held between 14 and 17 January with the six involved artists, who agreed on a theme of art inspired by the Swiss-German artist Paul Klee. Starting on 18 January, the symposium will be held in four villages in Luxor, El-Tod, El-Kobahy, Nagada and El-Kom, with the artists holding workshops with locals and painting collaborative murals until 21 January. The symposium aims to expose the Luxor residents to modern art, and is based on collaborations between the artists, as well as integration with the locals. The event is being organised by the Luxor-based culture organisation Art From People to People, the Goethe Institute in Cairo, and Robert Bosch Stiftung Foundation in Egypt. An exhibition will be held at the Art From People to People premises in Luxor on 23 January at 6pm.
