Egypian Minister of Defence Sedki Sobhi departed for India on Sunday following an invitation from his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss enhancing bilateral military cooperation, Egypt's state-run MENA news agency reported. Sobhi is set to discuss security coordination with a range of Indian officials. Egyptian-Indian relations have been steadily evolving in recent years. Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi first visited India in October 2015. The Egyptian president also visited New Delhi in 2016, where he signed a maritime transportation agreement with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
