The 2017 Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere 'toured like an Egyptian' during her visit on Wednesday to the historic Giza Plateau, riding camels and posing for pictures. In images released by Al-Ahram Arabic news website, the French beauty queen Mittenaere toured the site of the Great Sphinx of Giza and the pyramids on a camel, danced around and posed for photographs.
Mittenaere, a 24-year-old model, was crowned Miss Universe at the 65th edition of the annual international contest, which was hosted this year by the Philippines. She posed for pictures with a "#ThisIsEgypt" banner, the slogan of the country's official tourism campaign, expessing happiness to be visiting the ancient Egyptian site.
The first deputy of tourism ministry Adel Al-Masry accompanied Mitternaere on the tour.
Wednesday's visit to the renowned tourist site is a first leg in the French beauty queen's trip to Egypt, where she is also set to participate in a charity event in Luxor for Egypte Terre d'Espoir. Egypte Terre d'Espoir offers educational services to poor children in Luxor, including apprenticeships in pottery. The charity also provides food and medical services to poor families.
