Ahly ask to play CAF Champions League final on Sunday, request more fans to attend match
Published in Ahram Online on 23 - 10 - 2017

Ahly have requested this Sunday as their preferred date for the first leg of the CAF Champions League final against Morocco's Wydad Casablanca, with the Cairo giants now waiting for confirmation from the CAF Confederation of African Football.
"Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry asked to play the first leg of the CAF Champions League final on Sunday, and we are waiting for the Confederation's response, because they put forward 27, 28 and 29 October, asking us to choose one of them," Ahly executive director Sherin Shams told a radio programme on Monday.
"We are waiting for the CAF response within two days from now," he added.
Ahly hold the record for Champions League trophies, having won eight times. They sealed their place in the final this time with a 7-4 win on aggregate over Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel.
After losing 2-1 in Sousse early in October, Ahly crushed the Tunisians at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium, prevailing 6-2 to comfortably secure a final berth for the first time since winning the title in 2013.
Ahly's management have asked the interior ministry to increase the number of fans allowed to attend their match against Wydad Casablanca.
"We're asking for 70,000 fans to attend the game to support the team, as it is the official capacity of the Borg El-Arab Stadium," Shams said.
"We won't ask for 80,000 to attend the game, as reported, but we will ask for the official capacity of the stadium."
"Within 72 hours, we will finalize all the tickets numbers, as well as the security permissions for the CAF Champions League final game," he concluded.
